The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) is the only dues-based national organization representing the interests of established and emerging women entrepreneurs who own all or part of their businesses.

NAWBO California represents the issues and interests of more than 1.3 million women business owners in the state. California ranks No. 1 nationally in the number of woman-owned firms, number of employees (1.9 million) and revenues generated ($318.2 billion annually).

NAWBO members own diverse industry companies including manufacturing, construction, agribusiness, energy, retail, technology, high-tech, life science, biotechnology, transportation, health and professional services.

NAWBO also is affiliated with Les Fermmes Chefs d'Entreprises Mondials (World Assoc. of Women Entrepreneurs) in 33 countries.

Role

NAWBO California is a federation consisting of the nine NAWBO chapters in the Golden State.

It concentrates on statewide legislative action issues and corporate relations, and supports the growth of chapter membership through education, marketing and public relations at the local level.

Influence

NAWBO is a non-partisan organization that supports business issues and is recognized by:

  • State and local legislators who seek input from women business owners
  • Corporations that seek to do business with NAWBO members
  • Members who understand that participation is vital to their continued growth and success

History

NAWBO traces its origins to a small group of Washington, DC business women who began meeting informally to talk about mutual experiences, exchange information and develop business skills. Recognizing the value of the group, they incorporated as the National Association of Women Business Owners on December 19, 1974.

NAWBO-CA began holding meetings in 1992 and is now a formal consortium of 9 NAWBO chapters throughout the state.
